Heres a list of things that are cheap and good value.
Potatoes Eggs (cant believe i forgot eggs, theyre really versatile too)
Rice
Tuna
Mince meat
Sausages
Chicken pieces
Noodles
Pasta
There are others too that i will add as i think of them but these things are usually always cheap. The main thing is try and look for specials on your meats and get to know your prices on things. For example mince meat usually comes in regular or premium quality. The regular is more fatty while the premium has less fat but is also about twice the price.
Add more in comments too if you know of any cheap foods.
Don't know any more off the top of my head but definitely agree on rice and potatoes.
ReplyDeleteyou're all about saving money on food, aren't you?
ReplyDeleteYea joe i think its fun to try and cook tasty meals on a budget. Its a whole artform.
ReplyDeleteWhat exactly is chicken pieces? I usually don't buy chicken except for rare occasions, so I don't know anything about it.
ReplyDeleteChicken pieces are like pieces besides the usual legs and breats. They usually have bones in them and may be called casserole chicken pieces. At least thats what they are labeled as at my local supermarket. If you get familiar with browsing the meat section you should come across them i imagine.
ReplyDeletethis is one of my more favorite blog posts from you :)
ReplyDeleteBaked beans man. I could live off them if I had to. Add some curry powder, put them on buttered bread and you have an amazing snack.
ReplyDeleteWal-Mart french bread, man. Costs $1 (in Sacramento; can't speak for other areas) for a big-ass loaf of bread. Eat it plain, or spread some cheap-o butter on it and eat it with soup. Or better yet, slice it in half and get those chicken pieces in there for a bomb-ass sandwich.

Just to add something from a health perspective, brown rice > white rice and sweet potato > white potato. And I'd avoid anything but the highest quality sausages, so full of shit.
ReplyDeleteAdding on to cjp if you can afford it go for the whole grain pasta.
